story

Blood Searches is a comic focusing on a reality where vampires aren't monsters, aren't myths, but human beings like any other.  Taking place in an America where vampirism is considered a disease on the level of AIDS and commonly associated with the poor and violent, Blood Searches follows a young doctor named Thomas Levine who adopts the very two teenage sisters who drank his blood out of desperation.  Although vampirism is not as empowering as it is in legend nor as easily transmitable, a vampire's blood sucking is associated with many diseases and disabilities on the part of their victims as well as vampires themselves (though vampires themselves by no means need blood solely).  Living in a society afraid of its own people, Thomas must navigate a hot button issue that he struggles to understand through literature and whoever he can find to tell him their story.  Whether recovering from an attack by a vampire mugger or convincing his adopted youngest that vampires are not products of Satan, everyday occurrences become moments of note.  Blood Searches is not a vampire comic in the sense of Dracula or 50 days of night, but a story in the legacy of Robert Mattheson's I Am Legend which tries to rationalize vampires and discover what place they have in realistic world that appears both present and relatable.
